A night safe allows firms, shopkeepers and other business people to make lodgements after normal banking hours.

Customers who require this service are given a key that will open the safe without having to go inside the bank. The customer places the money in a special bag and deposits it in the safe. The next day, the customer goes to the bank, checks the entries and takes back the bag for further deposits in the safe.

Business people receiving money in the evening or at weekends use the night safe. It avoids the risk of keeping money on business premises.
