No, unfortunately it is prescription only. For a good reason though because if taken too often or incorrectly your system will build a tolerance to it, along with all anti-biotics, in the same way that your system builds a tolerance to certain strains of bacteria (i.e. cold or flu viruses).
In the US they are available by prescription only. In some other countries, such as Mexico, they are sold over the counter.
No. Antibiotics can only be prescribed by physicians. Mucinex is sold over the counter in stores like drug stores.
== == * I don't think there is anything that will substitute for Amoxicillin over the counter. It is an antibiotic and all antibiotics require a prescription. Not even the herbals claim to be able to cure infection which is what an antibiotic does. * Go to a feed store there are several antibiotics available including Amoxicillin, usually for fish. I had a doctor say it was alright to use them when I couldn't afford the prescription.
only bacterial
no, you cannot, estrogen can only be prescribed by a physician
But some antibiotics also are prescribed to prevent infections. This usually is done only in certain situations or for people with particular medical problems.
only a specific type and dosage prescribed by a Vet. which all depends on the bird.

They should only be used on a confirmed infection where the prescribed antibiotic is the best course for cure.
the use of antibiotics to prevent infections
Yes they do. That is why the use of them should be very judicious, and all possibilities considered before they are prescribed. Only a doctor has the experience and knowledge to fully do that. And that is why all antibiotics are (wisely) prescription only.
From a legal standpoint, any medication not prescribed for you would be illegal. And any medication or drug bought on the street would then also be illegal. All medications/drugs are illegal unless prescribed specifically for you. The only exception to this are medications which are legal to buy over the counter (OTC) at any pharmacy.
Many of the medications that people take are also prescribed for our pets, some of which are over-the-counter, and some are by vet prescription only. Antibiotics, antihistamines, analgesics (pain meds), antiemitics (anti-nausea meds), anti-diarrhea meds, sedatives, and insulin (for diabetes) are just a few of the meds that people take that are also prescribed for dogs, and other animals, as well. But always consult with your veterinarian before giving your dog any med that has not already been prescribed by a vet, whether over-the-counter, or not.
