No. Steroids are used to allow the muscle tissue to hold more water and aid in synthesizing proteins and formation of glycogen. This retention of water allows the muscle to also become more oxygenated, all of which gives a strenght increase as well as size increase. Growth as far as (tall or short) are defined by your DNA Dioxyribonuclaic Acid, your genetic code. Using steroids to increase mass beyond what your natural body will allow, will of course give you that wider, bulkier look. This bulky and wide look from steroid use can have an optical illusion effect of looking shorter than you really are. It actually happened to me...After a season of heavy steroid use and weight training 7 days a week for a couple of years, I was very massive and very defined as well, (kinda what you see in a body builder magazine). A friend of mine took a pic of me solo and a female who I did'nt know asked him how tall I was, he replied 5' 11"...She said hmm, he only looks like 5'7". There is one caveat though, taking steroids and getting stronger means lifting heavier weights...this can cause spinal compression and hurt the discs, while it is temporary compression that can be fixed from days off, relaxation and sleep, you could actually measure yourself to be about 1/2" shorter by the end of day. The next day after proper rest without lifting you would gain that 1/2" back as your spine decrompresses itself.

Possibly, but there is no consensus on this. Steroids used for Asthma treatment such as pulmicort (inhaled or oral) may possibly temporarily stunt growth in children. This is from drugs.com:

"Cases of growth suppression have been reported for inhaled corticosteroids including post-marketing reports for Pulmicort RESPULES."

http://www.drugs.com/sfx/pulmicort-side-effects.html

Webmd website states that pulmicort may stunt growth in children, but that it doesn't affect final adult height:

"Children may be more sensitive to the effects of too much corticosteroid medication. This medication may temporarily slow down a child's rate of growth if used for a long time. However, it will probably not affect final adult height. Monitor your child's height periodically."

http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-19937-Pulmicort+Inhl.aspx?drugid=19937&drugname=Pulmicort+Inhl

It also states:

"The administration of inhaled budesonide via a different dry-powder inhaler in doses up to 800 mcg/day (mean daily dose 445 mcg/day) or via a pressurized metered-dose inhaler in doses up to 1200 mcg/day (mean daily dose 620 mcg/day) to 216 pediatric patients (age 3 to 11 years) for 2 to 6 years had no significant effect on statural growth compared with non-corticosteroid therapy in 62 matched control patients. However, the long-term effect of inhaled budesonide on growth is not fully known."

Stay away form steroids, they are extremely dangerous! They can have serious side effects to include severe depression, drastic changes in temperament and mood swings, critical issues with organ function, erectile dysfunction, etc. There are safe ways to build your body if that is your intention. Stop in at any reputable fitness center and they can appropriately guide you.

Do a medica literature search on Google for this subject and you will NOT find any data pointing to stunting of growth; you WILL find that steriods are used to excellerate growth and development.

Do your own research and don't listen to these idiots.

well when, especially teens take steroids.... they need to grow so taking steroids affects. Especially guys because usually their growth ends around the age of 30. But us end at age 18.

Other effects....

-women who take steroids get body hair, and voice deepens

-men start to have breast like muscles(or pecs!)

P.S. i don't know any other simple way to say it. just don't do steroids. because ull look weird and it's bad 4 ur health. (oh! and i also forgot it's bad 4 ur lungs!)

Also...

~instead of taking steroids just use weights.

~but dont do weights like all most every single day cause well i heard that even weights can effect ur growth the more u use. but, im not sure....

~or, do sports like Basketball, swimming, soccer, volleyball, football, etc.

~In my opinion people that use too much weights or steroids are not strong. they r weak and a bunch of losers. but people that do REAL sports (as above) now they are strong and they r my knight and shining armor, they.. r my hero.

You have very less adverse effects of the steroids, which are inhaled as compared to the advantages. At times, your physician gives you short term oral or injectable steroids. Again the advantages far outweigh the adverse effects.

Actually all steroids stunt your bone growth. Anabolic steroids only enhance muscle growth. (Corticosteroids enhance neither muscle or bone growth).
