I have been on methadone for about a year now for drug rehabilitation and there are a few things I know. I can't say that anyone would be prescribed methadone for a STD in particular, but it is also used for pain treatment so if a STD is causing moderate to severe pain methadone may be prescribed for pain only. I hope this helps answer your question.

Methadone is a synthesized biological enzyme. It is, in effect a copy of an enzyme that the body stops producing when a person uses heroin or morphine. It's a substitute used to get the body producing the enzyme again.

Methadone is not an effective pain killer. It does stimulate the body's production of its own pain killers.

Methadone has no antiviral or antibiotic properties. Therefore, it cannot be used to treat disease.

Can you drive when taking methadone?

you can drive while on any dose of methadone, as long as it is a stable dose. and do not have the "nod". i was on 20mls and just recently up'd to 30mls. On 20mls i felt great wide awake and lots of energy. Today on 30mls, i am nodding off and have a bad headache. so today i would not drive my car. hope that helps.

Can you keep your cdl s if you are on methadone in treatment?

It is perfectly legal to drive on methadone, as it is on any other prescription drug, as long as you are not intoxicated. This means that for someone on a stable dose of methadone, who can pass a sobriety test, it is legal to drive. If the dose is too high or the individual's tolerance too low, or if the individual is prescribed other drugs which enhance the intoxicating effects of the methadone, the person will not be able to pass a sobriety test and will be considered intoxicated.

Can methadone cause sickness or fatality with any other drug interaction including over counter prescribed or street drugs. My mom is prescribed 10 mg twice a day. She is 70 and I Would like 2 know?

It can, but 20mg is just not enough methadone to be any danger especially if she has been taking it for a prolonged period. Methadone is usually safe to take with most other drugs, but everyone is different and has different drug allergies. It is important to talk to your physician or pharmacist to find any drug interactions.

Can you take methadone and still maintain employment?

Yes. If you are legally prescribed to it you definitely can. I wouldn't recommend telling people you are on methadone unless you absolutely have to. For example, if a doctor or dentist asks if you are on any prescription drugs, if a new job requires a drug test and asks on a form if you are on any prescription drugs or if you are joining the military or some kind of organization that would require you to tell them what drugs you are prescribed to. Just don't go around telling people that information about yourself because if it gets in the hands of the wrong person, they may try to steal it off you or something, people get very desperate when withdrawing from opiates. Also, I wouldn't recommend taking methadone UNLESS you are prescribed to it by a licensed physician. Methadone isn't a drug to play around with or experiment. There are a lot of kids that are taking it and have no idea what they are getting themselves into.

Can you take norco and methadone?

You could take them together but its quite a waste eventually. Methadone works as a blocker of opiates . Heroin addicts get prescribed it to take away their withdrawal but also so they cant get high from herion anymore. You would have to be on it for a little while before that starts working but it eventually does. I used to take up to 30 vicodin and or norcos a day, and when i tried to get off it i was prescribed methadone. ++Addition++ First of all, methadone DOES NOT block the effects of opiates. It does not contain any of the opiate blocking chemicals like suboxone or narcon does. However, taking ANY opiate in addition to Methadone can be very dangerous. Methadone is stronger per mg than many of the standard opiates that people take, such as Norco or Lortab. So taking one of these with Methadone can very easily send you into overdose mode. This is not to say that they cannot be taken together, but you just have to be very, very careful. My suggestion would be to ALWAYS speak with your doctor or other licensed health care professional for advice on what to take with your methadone.

Do they test for methadone if you are going take a drug test for heavy equipment operator?

When choosing a detox method what are the pros and cons of Methadone vs Buprenex?

Methadone is more appropriate if you are using higher doses of opiates. Methadone is more appropriate during pregnancy. Methadone is more appropriate if you have chronic, severe pain. Buprenorphine is more appropriate if you want to eventually get off all drugs. It's easier to get off of Buprenorphine than to get off of Methadone. In the U.S., Buprenorphine can be prescribed by any physician who has been certified to prescribe it. Methadone, on the other hand, can only be prescribed (for opiate addiction) in special clinics. Thus, you can get Buprenorphine in a regular doctor's office (if the doctor is certified) rather than having to go to a special clinic. Some people prefer this, since when you go to a regular doctor's office nobody in the lobby knows you're a drug addict.

Can you drive a tow truck while taking methadone?

If you are taking any form of medication responsibly as prescribed, it is fine to operate heavy equipment unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

What drug is only legal if prescribed by a doctor?

In the US, suboxone. Methadone when used for treatment of narcotic addiction also can be prescribed only by a physician. Other medications may be prescribed by any licensed prescriber, based on state law. These prescribers may include nurse practitioners, physician assistants, midwives and others.
