As long as you're not taking massive amounts of the Suboxone (like, more than two 8-mg pills) yes, the Vicodin will still work as a pain killer, even though you won't get high from it. You will probably have to take a double dose of it, though, or even a triple dose, depending on how much Suboxone you are taking. I am on Suboxone and last autumn I had a root canal, and the oral surgeon prescribed Vicodin for me, but I had to take double doses of it to get enough relief from the pain. I also had to cut my Suboxone dose in half (I was taking 8-mgs per day and cut it down to 4). Whatever you do, don't stop taking the Suboxone completely, because if you completely stop taking it you will have to wait until you're in extreme withdrawal from the Vicodin before you start taking Suboxone again. If you stop taking the Suboxone, and then start taking it again before you're in heavy withdrawal from the Vicodin, you will experience the worst, most horrible withdrawal symptoms you can imagine. You will get really, really sick.
Will Vicodin show up on a drug test while taking Suboxone?
yes Vicodin contains hydrocodone/codein and it will show up on a drug test for 2-3 days after ingestion. Suboxone does not make you urinate clean for any opiate (or any drug for that matter) on a drug screen. Suboxone contains buprenorphine and naloxone and it blocks the effects of other opiates for 24-72 hours after your last dose depending on how much suboxone you took. Also, because suboxone contains buprenorphine, DO NOT take suboxone for at least 12-24 hours after taking any kind of opiate as it will immediately put you into precipitated withdrawals. It is exactly like withdrawing from opiates if you are physically dependent on them and is not something to be taken lightly. Opiate withdrawal is absolutely horrible and if you can avoid the onset of withdrawals you should do so at any cost.

It's perfectly fine to take suboxone in the morning and one at night. That's how I take mine. It helps to last throughout the day.

I can answer this question from personal experience. I'm a struggling recovering opiate addict and am now prescribed to Suboxone. I'm prescribed 4mg in the morning and 4mg in the early evening, so 8mg a day. I know that if I wait for 24 hours after taking my last dose of Suboxone I can feel about 60%-70% of the oxy. If I continue to do them, the amount that I am able to feel it goes up. After the third day of being off my Suboxone I can finally feel the oxy 100%.

Taking opiates every day for just a week or two -- or taking them around the clock for just a few days -- will result in a serious physical addiction, and the pain of withdrawal is horrible, and can last for months. People take Suboxone so they can quit taking other opiates -- like heroin or oxycodone -- without the pain of withdrawal. For someone who is already addicted to opiates, Suboxone feeds the physical addiction, without getting the person high. However, once you've quit getting high and started taking Suboxone, you are now addicted to the Suboxone. The only way to stop taking Suboxone, without withdrawal pain, is to very slowly decrease your dosage over a period of several months, or even a few years.
