Benadryl is a good choice and any other antihistamine will help. Keep in mind that a reaction codeine or to any narcotic is like an allergy (itching, hives, etc) is really a side effect. The reactions may be different at different doses and some patients will tolerate alternatives.

I am allergic to morphine as well. I can take Vicodin, Lortab, Norco etc, but at higher doses (10mg or above) I do sometimes get very slight hives on my face, but not like with morphine. Anything 10mg and below and I've had no problem. That is just my experience.
