Is it dangerous to take Lortab during pregnancy?

Lortabs are considered safe during pregnancy. Anyone who tells you otherwise either has no clue or is not a doctor. I have been prescribed them during pregnancy and of course was very concerned about taking them...I am also high risk given that I am pregnant with multiples (twins). My doctor states that they are safe to take as long as you don't take them for too long, and you get off of them several weeks before delivering so that your child doesn't display withdraw symptoms when it's born. Of course it's the most mild dose, and you should only take it when absolutely necessary. I always recommend talking to your doctor, there is a lot of great information on the internet, but a lot of it is just full of people that think they know what they are talking about because they have done minimal research or heard a story. If you are in severe pain call your doctor and ask for advice, if you don't have one call the nurse's hotline.

Lortab contains acetaminophen (Tylenol) and hydrocodone (an opiate) and neither is harmful to the fetus but if you have a need to take it daily you need to speak to your doctor. If the baby were exposed to this every day throughout the pregnancy it would become dependant and go through withdrawal after delivery.

Lortabs (hydrocodone/acetaminophen) is a pregnancy class C medication. This means that some animal studies may have found detrimental effects to unborn fetuses, but no human studies have been performed. Generally, these drugs may be used if deemed necessary and if the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved with taking the medication.

Potential problems include sedation of the child, and post birth respiratory depression if you are taking the medication when you give birth to the child. There could also be problems with withdrawals on the part of your child.

Nothing! Your baby may have slight withdrawal when he/she is born but they wont even remember it. It has been shown that opioids produce no deleterious effects during fetal development.

I was on Percocet 10/325 4x a day from 4 months through the rest of my pregnancy with my second and had no problems. I have severe chronic pain due to several autoimmune disorders as well as chronic kidney stones due to hyperoxaluria. 

Hydrocodone and Oxycodone are Pregnancy Category A drugs. Tylenol is what makes Lortab and Percocet Category B drugs.
