When the ACTH reaches the adrenal cortex via the bloodstream, it then will stimulate the ENDOCRINE CELLS too synthesize and secrete a family of steroids called corticosteroids.In different cases of negative feedback, the elevated levels of corticosteroids in the blood will supress the secretion of ACTH. This is just a minor elaboration to the first answer below.
