Pain-killer 'nerofen', also known as nurofen, is the active ingredient of ibuprofen, which was discovered/developed in the 1960s by a team of research chemists at Boots Pharmaceuticals. Ibroprofen's discovery is attributed to Stewart Adams, assisted by colleagues John Nicholson, Jeff Bruce Wilson, Andrew RM Dunlop and Colin Burrows. It was patented in 1961. Ibuprofen was introduced as a as a 'prescription only' medicine in 1969 , but since 1983 it has been available 'over the counter', i.e. without prescription.
