Mary-Ann Louis
Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood. In 1916 she opened the first birth control clinic in the US. Following year she was found guilty of "maintaining a public nuisance" and was sent to jail for 30 days. When she came out she re-opened the clinic and continued to persevere through more arrests and prosecutions. She was also involved in a case in 1938 where a judge lifted the federal ban on birth control and diaphragms became popular. When she was in her 80's back in 1950 she underwrote the research necessary to create the first birth control pill. In 1960 she raised $150,000 for the project, and the first oral contraceptive, Enovid, was marketed in the US as invented by Frank Colton.

You are probably asking about Margaret Sanger. A pioneer in women's reproductive health, she opened a clinic in Brooklyn, New York in 1916. While today that does not seem very remarkable, back then the idea of family planning or letting women decide how many children to have was very controversial; despite the large number of women who wanted the clinic's services, it was shut down by police within days, and Sanger was arrested.

First of all, a minor should talk to their parent or guardian about getting birth control. Birth control pills, patches and shots can be received from a clinic or the family doctor. Some pediatricians will even give them out. Other methods of birth control such as male and female condoms can be bought at about any store with a pharmacy type department and even at convenient stores.
Yes, according to the Mayo Clinic and other reliable medical sites, the birth control pill can stop or reduce menstruation; that is, some types of pills stop it entirely, while others simply reduce the number of days you menstruate. But as your body adapts to this medication, you may still experience some spotting in the first few months. I enclose a link to the Mayo Clinic's explanation of the effect the birth control pill has on the menstrual cycle.
