The German Lightning War (Blitzkrieg) is a tactic used in the 2nd World War. It employs full military resources to attack the enemy and dispatch him quickly with giving him a chance to retaliate.
A good example of use of the Blitzkrieg is the invasion of Russia. Here a mix of infantry and armoured troops (tanks and trucks) invaded Russia while German Air Force overhead was laying waste to defences and the Russia planes still in the hangars on the ground.
