But after that he lost a lot of men and his army was so exhausted, Alexander had to turn back to Babylon. Before his death he had established plans to extend his rule into Arabia, Rome and Spain (the Iberian Peninsula). His ultimate goal was to reach the Pacific by conquering China. His empire extended as far as Punjab, India. Alexander established many new cities that still carry his name: Alexandria or Alexandroupoli. He died in Babylon in 323 BC at the age of 33.
