No, Alexander's attempt to move east from the Punjab was frustrated by the mutiny of his army, who after 10 years of fighting just wanted to go home insted of blindly following Alexander's insatiable urge for more conquest, imagining that by taking India he would have taken all the world in the east.
After the mutiny he was forced to turn back and return to Babylon. Just as well as Chandragupta was moving west with 1,000 war elephants which would have destroyed Alexander's relatively small army.
I am not quite sure exactly what is meant by that question but I believe it is a no. India was already discovered and known of. Alexander, after conquering Persia, set out to conquer India. He arrived in the plains of northwestern India, fought a brutal battle, and conquered that part of India. He planned on marching on to conquer more of India to the east, but his army refused to go on since they were fought year after year non-stop. So Alexander had to turn back and didn't go any further into India.
History books record that Alexander's Army which had HUGE cavalry came to a grinding halt when faced by gigantic Elephant based armies of Hindu Kings of Hindustan (Modern day India). In present context Alexander was stopped at the India's north-western most state Punjab's border. The horses being frightened of bigger animals (elephants) would not march forward, handicapping Alexander cavalry. Watch award winner Hollywood epic movie called "Alexander" to learn more. Another reason would be that his armies would refuse to go any further having just conquered his huge empire. Thus he could not add any more territory to his empire. It is even said that he wept on his deathbed because there was no more land to conquer.
he didnt he died of sickness when he still wanted to go into battle
Alexander the Great started going into India into 326 BC. After winning a pitched battle that went to the wire against a local king Porus who used elephants, Alexander learnt there were many more Kings in India with stronger forces. Alexander wanted to fight. His army didn't. They had been freaked out by elephants. They were exhausted. They had left their home of Macedonia and Greece 8 years ago. They wanted to see their wives and children again. They didn't want to fight more battles against stronger enemies who would probably beat them. They were running low on morale. Alexander tried to persuade his men otherwise, even throwing a tantrum where he stayed in a tent for three days, but his men wouldn't budge. And Alexander the Great was forced to go back.
After the Russians won the Battle of Stalingrad the Russians progressively forced the Germans out of Russia until the Russians won the Battle of Berlin .
His army refused to go any further.

Ancient India is not given the credit because they DID NOT actually defeat Alexander the great. Alexander's troops made him stop his seige on India because they were too tired to go on.
