Not really. After he was crowned king Harrald Hardrada (a Viking competitor for the throne) invaded England but Harold Godwinson's army fought them off. While Harold's army was in the north William invaded the south. Harold's army marched south and fought the Normans near Hastings. The English were tired and not as well equipped as the Normans who won the battle, killed Harold and took over England. Harold didn't want to fight but had no choice.
Harolds army was worn out and tired for they had fought at another battle earlier at Stanford bridge
No he didn't because he had no choice he had to fight wiliam and try to surprise him Also he didn't rush into battle with harald because otherwse if he had waited any longer harald would have anded in England andd gain more troops along the way.
Harold II. was informed by his messengers that his Norman cousin William had landed on England's shore near the little village of Hastings on September 28th 1066. Harold's victorious army was still worn out and tired from the encounter with the Vikings in the Battle of Stamford Bridge on 25th of September when they speedily had to march towards Hastings to defeat William, they arrived on the location in early October. Harold placed his camp on the top of a hill near Hastings and waited for William to attack. William was well equipped when he commanded the Norman cavalry and a Breton foot regiment on October 14th, the day of the battle. The terrain was a muddy valley soaked with water from a recent rainfall, the Norman invaders got stuck in this valley facing Harold's hill. Harold would only have had to defend the Norman attacks and to protect his hill position. The Normans had already suffered some losses and became impatient as they could not take the hill when the Breton foot soldiers heard the rumour that William was killed. Very little before their flight William strapped off his helmet, showed his face to his officers, cheered up his men and launched the cavalry attack on the hill. Now Harold tragically ordered his men to leave the hill top and to rush down to meet the enemy on the hill slope and in the muddy valley. To leave the safe hill position was a mistake to be swiftly answered with disaster. Together with his foot soldiers and cavalry William raced up the hill slope, passed by the English infantry and hopped over the camp palisades to fight with Harold who was killed by an arrow hitting his right eye before William could reach him. After the battle Harold II. was buried beneath the altar of a chapel close to the battlefield. William moved on to London and was crowned in Winchester on Christmas Day 1066. He introduced French language, Norman culture, organisation, administration, discipline and everything else to England, ascertained the support of the English bishops and for four generations Norman kings sat on the English throne. While William was waiting for good weather to invade the south coast of England another invasion was taking place on the north-east coast. Harald Hardrada, King of Norway and Tostig Godwinson, brother of King Harold of England invaded to take England for themselves. Harold had to rush northwards and put together an army to defeat this Viking army. As soon as he had done this, word came of the Norman army which had just landed in the south. He had to rush south and pick up any forces available to try to defeat William.
The battle of Hastings was fought because William the Conquer believed that he had a right to the English throne. He invaded England in 1066 from Normandy, France. Harold Godwinson, the king of Anglo-Saxon England, had to rush his troops down to meet with Williams' after they defeated the Vikings in Northern England. They were very tired and at a disadvantage so William beat him and declared himself king.
Harold hardrada was a Norwegian king who fancied being king of England. He invaded, and had some success in the north. In September 1066 the then king of England (Harold II) defeated him in the north. The king's army was much weakened by the battle, but had to rush back to southern England to face William of Normandy. William won the battle of Hastings and he became William I of England.
