Did Hitler create the nuclear bomb?

Yes he did, Hitler and the Nazis along with many scientists including Albert Einstein did design the Atomic Bombs which was used by the US onto Japan but Germany was only near in starting production of the Atomic Bombs. When the US invaded Germany they sent the plans straight back to the US so that their scientists can start the final modifications then produce some Bombs.

Hitler was working on atomic bombs for the future. Hitler thought if Germany was to actually win a war, they should do it quickly before they run out of resources (they also actually thought they would win before the US enters the war) but after shipments of heavy water were sunk by Norwegian commandos; the Germans completely abandoned the project.

No, Leo Szilard did in 1933 and patented it on June 28, 1934. The patent was granted in 1936 and immediately sold to and classified by the British Admiralty to prevent the Nazi's from seeing it. This patent however was not enough to actually construct a working atomic bomb (it only covered the chain reaction and how to calculate critical masses).

The Nazi's did begin an atomic bomb project in 1939 following the discovery of nuclear fission in uranium-235. However they made an error in calculation of the critical mass in late 1941 that suggested that a complete atomic bomb would be too heavy for any existing or foreseen bomber to carry that might be available during the war. This caused Albert Spier to suspend bomb development and concentrate for the rest of the war on small scale prototype reactor development. The plan was that after the war these prototypes could be scaled up to build nuclear power plants.

Nazi Germany didn't have a atomic bomb during WW2. However, Germany did have a nuclear energy project and during it, German scientists and generals tried designing the first Atomic bomb but due to their defeat on May 1945, it was never completed or any prototypes weren't made.

There are claims in "Hitler's Bomb," by Berlin historian Rainer Karlsch, that they had a successful detonation of an atomic weapon on Oct. 12 1944 on Roegen Island in the Baltic Sea about 300 miles from Berlin. The EMP from the blast knocked out communications in Berlin for several days. The single source of the information claims that two more tests were held in 1945 in Thuringia where their secret weapons program headed by Kurt Deibner was located.

Currently the lack of concrete evidence to support the claims make them questionable. There is no indication of radiation levels expected in the areas where the supposed detonations took place. The 'witnesses' are talking about third hand accounts. Continued research is underway to see if there is supporting evidence.
