TO make pottery, one must mix clay with ground bone or shell for calcium.. this will keep the pottery from cracking.. its the secret ingredient. Make a mound using lava rocks and keep it hollow therein. Fill with sagebrush, and use oak or juniper for the fire, for they will burn hot enough. Deer antlers will be used to move the pottery between furnace and not. I have not heard of ash being used in any part of this process, but if I had to guess Iit wouldn't hurt probably to douse the entire pot in cooled ash, though I don't believe this is necessary. Oak ash makes great baking soda.. for tooth brushing or baking.
That's impossible to answer. Each tribe varies in it's customs of artwork and can't be lobbed together as "Native American pottery".

the answer to this is simple... they took unpurified clay (they didn't have the proper tech to purify the clay) shaped it to make what they wanted the pottery to be then put it in a chamber that was heated just enough to harden the pottery (if the pottery was kept in the chamber to long the pottery hardened to much and started to crack
Well it was clay, so probably not
The Zuni people still use the Zuni River and locally-sourced clay to fashion pottery for food and water storage. They decorate this pottery with home-made organic dyes. These same dyes are used for their woven items of clothing. That same clay is used to make adobe, a type of brick with which houses are built. As their language is not related to any other Native American language, they had to rely on the human resource of intelligence to create their language. They used gravity (and still do) to irrigate the arid desert region in which they live.
It depends on the civilization. Early American Native Americans wove baskets and some made clay pottery. In Ancient China the use of clay pottery was rampant throughout the society, so did the Greeks and Romans make clay pottery. The Egyptians also had clay pottery, baskets, and used metal to create cups, plates, and other items. Clay is rampant throughout the world and early people learned to use it very early.

To make pottery, you take soft clay to the Barbarian Village. South of the center is a hut which has the equipment required to do pottery. Use the soft clay on the pottery wheel first; then use the pots on the oven to bake your pottery.
