People didn't travel in the middle ages. It was hard, expensive, and dangerous. To go 30 miles would take days. It isn't until the 1400's ( the middle ages are over then) when explorers began to explore the world. When exploring did start a lot changed. How people viewed the world changed, the foods they ate changed, new ideas began to form, and a whole new world opened.

Anything. Although some substances such as carpet or anything fluffy will absorb the sound. It will still travel through, just not as loud as it was the side the sound occurred. Also, the substance might be too thick to travel all the way through, such as a foot thick wall. It might just stop in the middle or end up being to soft or quiet to hear. Your Welcome
Most commonly people in the middle ages walked to get where they were going. The wealthy may have used a horse. Long distance travel was uncommon. Most people lived in small villages, and rarely if ever traveled any further than the nearest market town to sell their surplus and buy a few manufactured goods. Some professions, such as merchants and soldiers, might regularly travel, but roads were generally poor and long distance travel was difficult. Religious pilgrimage was also a cause for long distance travel.

Nothing increased trade or travel in the middle ages. If anything, after the fall of Rome in 410 AD trade decreased because the roads were no longer protected by the Roman army and it was too dangerous to travel. Most people never went beyond 5 miles from home in their life.
