1. Japan invaded China in 1937 so China was keeping much of the Japanese Army busy and not able to fight elsewhere.

2. China supplied soldiers under American command to help the British and Indian Armies prevent the Japanese from cutting the Burma Road, which was bringing supplies from India to China.

3. If the crews of bombers did not have enough fuel or were damaged over Japan, they were sometimes able to land in China as it was nearer than their bases.
