Not really. The people who settled New England didn't really believe that savery was a good thing. There were exceptions, but exceptions were one or two slaves, usually of Native Americn descent.

This reduced the demand for large numbers of indentured servants or slaves to work on plantations. Additionally, New England's harsh climate and rocky soil made large-scale agriculture less profitable, further diminishing the need for coerced labor.
