Eating with your hands is far from being unusual. A large proportion of the population of the word still eats with their hands these days: Indians, Muslims, peoples in Southeast Asia and Africans. For them it is a traditional thing. Only very westernised people use cutlery in these areas. The use of cutlery is a western thing. The outside the west the only alternative to eating with your hands is the chop sticks.
