The WW2 generation, from 1945 into the 1950's began transitioning military ideas, such as "rations" into the commercial market, these evolved into food items such as TV dinners (much like foods served on commercial airliners-already prepared, simply heat-and remove the clear plastic covering); and the micro-wave oven began to make it's appearance in the 60's, another military experiment (radio waves) turned into commercial usage. Powered foods/drinks such as powdered Tang, Cool Aids, Chocolete Milk, made their appearance, as well as dozens of brands of dry cereals. The 60's accelerated the new products from the 50's, with more brands, different methods of wrappings...new plastics wrappings that actually stuck to the food item being wrapped, and of course the previously mentioned new forms of heating food, the micro-wave. The new Pizza craze, home delivery, etc. may have come into mass market, as we know it today, during the 1970's. Fast food chains were probably the biggest commercial growth during the 1960's. Mainly adult males drove cars during the 1930's, 1940's, and 1950's. During the mid-1960's...about 1965 onward, younger men had more cars available to them to work on (repair), and more and more "Daddy's" began buying their daughter's "High School" graduation "gifts" (cars) during the 1960's. Males, for the most part had to scrounge up a beat up car, which they customized into "hot rod's" (which actually really got big in the 50's); females, as mentioned before, normally got a car as a gift from Daddy (working Mother's were still new in the 50's/60's), so Dad had all the money. With Guys and Gals adding cars to the street & highway systems (to the previously adult male driven automobiles), PLUS the ever increasing "Working Mom's"...automobile traffic QUADRUPLED! This created a boom in the fast food (chain) DRIVE THRU'S during the 1960's; that you see today.
