I would like to improve my answer as follows: During the civil war in Spain there were not only "fascist forces" which fought against the Republic. As statement of fact the opposing forces were built up by a coalition of following political parties: The "Falangist party", which can be considered a fascist party. The Nationalist party, The Catholic party, The Monarchist party. This coalition was led by the majority of the Armed Forces commanded by generals Emilio Mola and Francisco Franco. After the death of general Mola, Francisco Franco became the Commander in Chief of the Army and the coalition's leader.

In January of 1939, some areas of Catalonia and Valencia were still in Republican hands. However, Francisco Franco was in control of the whole country by the end of the year. Franco's government was a fascist dictatorial state.
