Yes, under Gen. "Blackjack" Pershing. The US Horse Cavalry wasn't officially disbanded until 1942. The US Army's last "horse cavalry" battle was conducted by the US 26th Cavalry...against Japanese Type 95 light tanks in 1942.

He served as a Lieutenant under Blackjack Pershing during the Poncho Villa pursuit in 1916 into Mexico; yes he had a horse. But he preferred the "new" automobile in Mexico and killed some of his first men during the pursuit, while using his new car (instead of a horse). He proudly stated that he had conducted the US Army's first mechanized combat operation.
