Why are veterans called veterans after only 2 - 3 years in the US military?

Veterans are recognized as such after completing their service in the military, regardless of the length of time served. The term "veteran" applies to anyone who has served in the armed forces, which can include individuals who have completed a minimum service requirement, often around two to three years. This designation acknowledges their commitment and experiences, regardless of the duration of their service.
