Henry VIII was not involved in any conflict between Protestants and Catholics. As far as he was concerned he changed the "Church of Rome" under the Pope into the "Church of England" under himself. He went after the monasteries, convents and churches of the Catholic church because of their riches that he confiscated for himself, using as a pretext that he suspected them of remaining loyal to the Pope.
Gradually, the Church of England came to be considered as a "Protestant" religion, basically because of its opposition to the Catholic church and because - just as the Lutherans and Calvinists - it had started to revert to 'Bible-based' instead of 'Church teaching'-based religion. Henry's daughter Elisabeth saw herself clearly in the Protestant camp; Henry himself saw himself just as 'anti-Pope'.

Both religions came to America trying to find separation from the English religious turmoil. Not all Protestants came to America at first, but the non-Anglican sects did because they did not want to admit King Henry VIII was the head of the Church of England. The Catholics came over mainly when Maryland was created originally intended to be a haven for Catholics but, because of financial regions, had both Protestants and Catholics. Eventually, lots more people wanted to come over.
Mary I (1516 - 1558) nicknamed "Bloody Mary" for her persecution of Protestants during her reign, was the daughter of Henry VIII (1491 - 1547) and his first wife, Catherine of Aragon (1485 - 1536).
The Catholic Church does not permit divorce. Catholics in England did not recognize the divorce, and therefore viewed Henry VIII's marriage to Anne Boleyn as adultery. The Roman Catholic Church does not recognize divorce. Catholics believed that Henry VIII was still married to Catherine of Aragon, and therefore that his relationship with Anne Boleyn was adultery and their daughter, Elizabeth, therefore, a bastard, not qualified to become the queen.
Protestants are called protestants because they PROTESTED against the catholic church because Henry viii was catholic but he wanted a divorce but the catholics would not let him, so he started his own church( church of England) and they were called the protestants, also you can not be protestant and catholic.

In England Henry the VIII had a lot to do with it.
The dissolution of the monasteries was nothing to do with supressing Protestants (Monasteries were Catholic) and it was Henry VIII not Henry VII.
