As you've probably already imagined, you might want to avoid being a complete "tyrant" and needlessly antagonizing workers. However, it's also important you be firm when it is needed, so that workers won't stop taking you seriously and your boss starts to question the wisdom of making you a supervisor.
The best advice I can give is to converse politely when possible. If a worker repeatedly brushes you off, only then should you take him/her aside and talk to them, or report him/her to your superior. Also make sure to avoid (needlessly) singling out any workers, lest others think you're playing favourites or that you have a grudge against someone.

A superviser supervises. They make sure that everyone is doing what they should be doing and are on task.
I would define this as making sure the customer is satisfied and answering any questions he/she may have along with any other advice you may have to meet the customers needs. I have advised someone to go to the superviser when they could not get anything resolved from the lower levels of management ( paper delivery problem) I asked her if she talked to a superviser about the problem, when she said she had not I advised her to talk toc upper management. Sometimes this is the only way to get things done.
