Ahkenaten decided that all the Egyptians should worship one god, Aten, the god of the sun. So he demanded that all other gods were not to be worshiped. This of course had its problems because there were so many gods of ancient Egypt that it was very difficult to get rid of them all. He demanded all the shrines and temples to the other gods be destroyed. After his death though, Egypt went back to worshiping all their gods.
