When his army revolted in India and refused to go further east to fulfill his dream of conquering all of the eastern world, he marched them home through a desert where many of them died on the way.

Much of his killings were all part of a day's work for a conqueror, but if we judge them by today's standards, they look grim. This poses the quetion - by what standards do we judge people, and how valid are they?
