the way i understand it wasnt the 2nd world war but the after math that sent us to space. it was due to the competition between the Soviet Union and the U.S. when the soviets sent sputnik into outer space before us we knew we had to come up with someway to trump that so president Kennedy moved forward with NASA, a space program set up by president eisenhower, and 8 years later we landed on the moon.
