Countries historically filled their armies and navies through various means, including conscription, voluntary enlistment, and mercenary contracts. During times of war, many nations implemented drafts to compel citizens to serve, while others relied on patriotic appeals to encourage volunteers. Additionally, some states employed mercenaries or hired foreign soldiers to bolster their forces. Economic incentives, such as signing bonuses or land grants, also played a significant role in attracting recruits.
An air force can allow armies and navies to travel further, by providing air re-supply of men, fuel, ammunition, spare parts, and other equipment. An air force can hit and destroy targets out of range of army and naval forces. An air force can transport armies faster and further, than if an army marched there on foot or drove there by themselves.
During the cold war the US averaged 2 million men under arms; during Vietnam, 3 million men.
because they were ferocious and had great weapons. They also had strong armies of men
Physically and mentally fit for military service. Records of Educational and Law Abiding backgrounds are preferably to be of good standing. Physical, mental, educational, and law abiding conditions of the recruit are based upon the needs of the service: 1. In the beginning of WW2, top notch men were the only ones accepted for service. 2. As casualties and other such attrititions consumed resources during WW2, men with missing fingers, limps, no education (which had normally NEVER been a requirement for enlisted men anyway), less than normal law abiding records, or other such difficulties, were admitted into the US Military. Note*Armies and Navies thru-out history; US, Great Britain, Russia, etc. have often used inmates from their prisons to fill the ranks of Infantrymen, or sailors to man their warships during desperate wars.
In most western countries women have the same rights as men. Unfortunately this is not true of all countries.
The British had an Empire to defend (protect). That required armies/navies; and men made up armies/navies back then.
All, or most armies (and navies too) utilize the drum to establish cadence (rhythm) for marching men or sounding to quarters aboard a warship (Man O War). Which is why sounding to quarters is (or was) often called "Beat to quarters" (to the sound of the drum).

Most nations without large bodies of water, or near large bodies of water have NO navies. It would be a wast of resources (money, time, men, and material) to have ships and sailors and no place to put them.
The Northern armies from both the US Civil War & Vietnam Wars drafted their men.
Women are still behind wen compared to Men when dealing with I.T related jobs. Men occupy nearly 60% of I.T jobs with this disparity greater in undeveloped countries.
