On the other spectrum, Hildegarde of Bingen loves saunas and wrote about what herbs to blend and pour over the head, or mix with water and toss onto heated stones for a steam bath. Many monasteries built fountains to wash in.

The belief that no one bathed in the middle ages in a myth. Writings of the time, woodcarving, paintings, and poetry show that bathing was a huge part of medieval life.
