How did military technology changed from World War I to now?

Bigger. Better. Faster. More. However, an electrical signal is still the same as it was then. A round still comes out of a gun barrel in the same way. A warship still floats because of its buoyancy And a warplane still flies on the same aerodynamic principle. Technology has advanced since World War 1, and military technology has advanced with it, but the basic technology has not changed.

By 1909, the Boer War, Russo-Japanese, and the Franco-Prussian had all concluded, heralding a new era in military tactics and modernization. Artillery and rifles were all now breach-loading, many naval vessels were now turbine powered and uniform calibered like the revolutionary HMS Dreadnought, the machine gun was sweeping onto the stage, railroads allowed troops to move quickly, and the airplane was gaining a small, if lonely following.

Strategy involved somewhat ponderous movements of large armies of men and conclusive slugging match-style battles.

Killing power and the ability to move armed men and equipment had increased dramatically.

In 2009, firepower and transport has increased in an even greater way. Modern militaries can move at blisteringly fast paces carrying lethal weaponry. The United States Army has made it a goal to be able to deploy a Brigade anywhere in the world within 96 hours, an ability it may well be able to reach given the modern abilities of helicopter, jets, and fast ground vehicles.

As for killing power, a dozen nations have nuclear weaponry and the planes, submarine, or missiles to deliver them. Military strategy has become one of delicate diplomacy, mutually assured destruction (MAD), and preemptive strikes with the nuclear, and fast-moving shock-and-awe with the non-nuclear. The 1991 Gulf War being a prime example of this.
