I believe that the Nazi regime inhumanely rounded up Jews and put them in certain areas within the Jews own neighborhoods then erected barriers to keep the Jews from leave those areas.
The first attempt to set up a ghetto had been made by the SS in November 1939. In mid-November 1940 the Jewish ghetto in Warsaw was sealed off by a high wall. The Nazis did not use the term ghetto, but referred to the area as Jüdischer Wohnbezirk meaning Jewish Quarter.
There are unreliable stories about the use of crucifixion on the Eastern Front, but not in camps.
Ghetto currently means slums or area of a city housing low income populations. During World War 2 the German Nazi use of the word Ghetto was a section of a city in which all Jews were required to live in many European cities. A good definition would be "a section predominantly inhabited by Jews" during WW2. Most of the Jews who had been housed in the ghettos did not survive the war because they were either killed or starved to death.
They put Jews in camps where they where sent to die, just because they were Jewish.

During World War II, Jewish people were often relocated to the ghetto. (???)

A Holocaust survivor may feel uncomfortable or offended by the casual use of the word "ghetto" today, as it can trivialize the true horror and suffering associated with the historical ghettos during that time. It may diminish the significance and gravity of the experiences they went through, as well as the impact it had on their lives and communities.
