Roman Catholic. All the Kings and Queens of England were Catholic until the later Tudors as were the Kings and Queens of Scotland and all European Monarchy up until the Reformation in the sixteenth century.
The land the church owned is where most of the money the church collected was from. Nobles and kings knew that when you change your religion, you will get back land that was given to the church and they would be able to receive the taxes from the land. Also the religious wars fought by the Catholics and protestants weakened the churches power even more.
yes he did... until the reformation in germany, and then loads of people turned protestant, which gave the kings more power
The religious wars of the Reformation provided kings with the opportunity to consolidate their power by diminishing the influence of the Catholic Church and asserting their authority over religious matters within their realms. They could also exploit the conflicts to gain territory and resources, as wars often resulted in shifting borders and the acquisition of lands from defeated opponents. Additionally, these wars allowed kings to rally support from their subjects by promoting a unifying national or religious identity, thereby strengthening their legitimacy and control.
