Should the military draft be abolished was a very large political issue. Should ROTC operations continue to be utilized on college campu's, was an issue. Should flag burning be made a crime, became an issue, along with some "freedom of speech" issues (was it treason?). The US Navy had been using dolphins/porpoises to search for enemy mines in some of the ports in South Vietnam, animal protection groups wanted it stopped.

How did conflict affect the political climate in the nineteeth-century Europe and the US?

In the nineteenth century, conflict significantly shaped the political climate in both Europe and the United States by intensifying national identities and fostering revolutionary movements. In Europe, the rise of nationalism often led to internal strife and the unification of states, exemplified by the unification of Germany and Italy. In the U.S., the issue of slavery fueled sectional tensions, culminating in the Civil War, which ultimately transformed the political landscape and led to significant social and legislative changes, including the abolition of slavery. Overall, these conflicts prompted shifts in governance and sparked debates over rights, citizenship, and state power.
