The war of 1812 was caused by escalating tensions between the US and Great Britain. These tensions were caused by Impressionism, the War Hawks growing land hunger, and Tecumseh's united Indian tribes constant attacks on the frontier. It was well known that the British were supplying the Native Americans with weapons, and spurring them to continue attacking.

The seizure of Canada was halted immediately, then Tecumseh was killed in battle and the tribal confederacy was for the most part disbanded. Although a few Native Americans continued fighting alongside the British, there was no united Indian effort. That was the first of the three reasons for the war.

Next the British defeated the French in a much larger war they were fighting at the same time. This put to rest completely impressionism. The third reason for entering the war. However, because of poorly funded, poorly led, and poor spirited troops it turned into a defensive war.

However, fights like the battle at Fort Mchenry, and Jackson slaughtering the British outside of New Orleans led to a major American moral boost. After the war ended because of an apparent stalemate American pride was essentially born. At the time the war was referred to as the Second Revolutionary War. The completion of the war worked as a band aide to heal the wounds that had been created prewar. The relationship between the US and Britain also was greatly effected. It pushed trade in very positive direction, and eventually led to Britain being one of the USclosest allies.
