The Europeans and Americans had a strangle hold on all of the markets surrounding Japan and had a policy of deliberately excluding Japan from these markets. They were virtually forced into the war. This turned out to be a good move on the part of American industry in particular as they benefited big time after Japan fell to US control after WW2.
