After Tecumseh and other Native Americans fled to British-held Canada, many Americans concluded that the British were actively supporting Native American resistance against American expansion. This perception fueled anti-British sentiment and intensified calls for war, contributing to the outbreak of the War of 1812. Americans believed that the British were inciting Native American tribes to attack frontier settlements, thereby threatening their security and territorial ambitions.

At the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811, American forces discovered that Native American warriors, led by Tecumseh's brother, Tenskwatawa (the Prophet), were receiving support and arms from the British. This revelation fueled American anger towards both the Native Americans and the British, as they perceived it as an infringement on American sovereignty and a threat to westward expansion. The alliance between the British and Native Americans intensified tensions, contributing to the outbreak of the War of 1812.

I can not think of any positive effects for the Native Americans. Their land was taken, they were killed, they died of disease, and they were treated as second class citizens.

The terms "Americans" or "American colonists" were used by the British way back when the USA was only a colony of Britain. After the USA was formed, people living in this new country continued to be referred to as Americans. So American people did not choose to call themselves that. If anyone presumed that people in the territory of what is now the USA were the only "Americans," then it was the British. The term is not exclusively used by US citizens either. Many other countries refer to US Citizens as "Americans" also.
It seems a lot of Americans think so. You hear about 'British accents' which usually means an English one. The term 'British' can mean English, Welsh, Scottish or Northern Irish as they are all UK citizens.
