South Carolina and Georgia had the most slave populations. While in these new colonies the slaves brought their culture such as crafts of small baskets and pottery, stories from generations ago, even the language Gullah which was a combination from 21 separate groups. The African skills in the south were cattle herding, fishing, and cultivation. The Africans made the best of the situation and made new families even though there was no direct connection. Africans of the south made the best and the south agreed with the idea.
The difference in Virginia and Maryland was the slaves were a minority rather than a majority of the population. That meant the integration between Europeans and African was better, the Europeans even encouraged Africans to start families. The slaves cultivated tobacco, didn't take as long to grow rice, and had other family farm tasks. Since they were a better part of society the were more likely not to be shipped away but still feared it. The Middle colonies rules were free choice occupations, less farm or field jobs. The female slaves jobs were cooks, housekeepers, personal servants. While the male slaves worked in manufacturing, trading, or artisans. The harder male jobs were lumberjacks, shipbuilding, shipping goods alongside the dockworkers, sailors, fishermen, whalers, and privateers which contributed to the Atlantic economy.
