The expansion of ancient Rome resulted in the submission of the peoples who inhabited what is now Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Great Britain (most of it). This submission resulted in these conquered peoples paying taxes & tributes to Rome. The battles fought to secure these nations resulted in a population decline at first. The defeated soldiers and other people in the conquered area also brought to Rome slaves.

The were some more positive affects however, such as bringing a structured form of government to these areas. Better roads and public buildings were part of the affects. Men also had the opportunity to join the Roman legions as auxiliaries forces and share in the booty of Roman battles.

Improved commerce resulted in the Roman occupation of these areas as well.
