Dropping bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki help us understand the effects of what nuclear exposure can create and the devastation it can cause for generations. There were no real positive effects of the bombs to the environment, diplomacy, or the people exposed to the radiation.
In the past, the sea around Japan helped to protect them from invasion. However, after the USA developed the atom bomb, the difficulty of invading Japan influenced them to drop the atom bomb.
They did but they had decided to surrender before the bombs. August 6 1945, US drops the first bomb. Meanwhile Japan was hoping for Russia to help with the procedure but Russia declared war against Japan and invaded Manchuria making a mess of Japan's service men there. Japan did know to surrender to the United States than surrender to Russia.
The bomb wasn't ready although it may have been almost so by the end of the Okinawa battle. More to the point, the bomb was used to make a political statement as much as a military one. Dropping it on some far off post like Guadalcanal would serve no political purpose. Also, note that it is just a bomb after all, albeit a large one. Dropping it on a coral island or jungle mountain range would hardly have done the damage done by dropping on a heavily built up area like a city or military base. Those operations still require - to this day - significant ground forces.
WWII began between the US and Japan with the surprise attack on the US Fleet at Pearl Harbor.
The atom bomb was not discovered, it was created by ALbert Einstein with a team of engineers and inventors to help the American Military execute one of its biggest attacks ever. The term e=mc squared is actually the formula for the atom bomb. To make a bomb like this, they basically compressed it so tightly that the atoms and molecules became explosive.

No one can really answer this. They can only give you the speculation on what would of happened if they did not drop the bomb. The war was very long and a huge drain on resources for most of the world. With Russia completely were virtually wiped out and said they were unable to help tackle Japan for at least 6-8 months. Britain and France were crippled. USA were mostly on there own to fight the battle against Japan. The war against Japan could have lasted years and cost a lot more lives than dropping the bomb.
