She was smart because she came up with a plan on how to free herself and she was brave because she took the risk of escaping. She could have gotten caught but never did. When Harriet had freed herself she went back and helped other people get their freedom they diserved. Harriet didn't just think of herself she wasn't selfish or otherwise she would have never been famous she would have just been a normal person and would of never been famous.
