When members of the Congress asked Thomas Jefferson to draft the DEclaration of Independence he did so. It only took 3 weeks for him to write it. Years later Thomas decided to make his words into reality in Virginia. :]

He did not want to be remembered as one of the people in the Continental Congress who did not sign the Declaration and prevent our independence. He would have prevented our independence because the other 12 states agreed on independence, and all 13 had to agree, so it was down to Pennsylvania and it was split in half so Wilson had the last vote and he voted for independence.

Both JAMES WILSON and SAMUEL CHASE were signatories of the Declaration of Independence who were later appointed to the US Supreme Court by George Washington. There were other Founding Fathers, like John Jay who were appointed to the US Supreme Court under Washington, but they were not signatories to the Declaration of Independence.
George Washington nominated James Wilson, signatory to both the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution, to the US Supreme Court in October 1789. Wilson served on the Court until his death in August 1798.
