For most of ancient Egyptian history there were only two scripts: hieroglyphic text, used for monumental inscriptions, tombs, statues, buildings and so on - and hieratic, which is a cursive form of the same hieroglyphs used for keeping records, writing letters and in mathematical, legal and medicinal texts. Hieratic derived directly from hieroglyphs and seems to have existed right from the beginning; it was usually written in black ink and always from right to left.
Very late in Egyptian history, around 650 BC, a third script was introduced. This was Demotic, which is a much simplified and mutated form of hieratic. Demotic texts do not reflect the hieroglyphic equivalent sign for sign, as hieratic does.
Demotic is from the Greek word meaning "of the people", but it essentially replaced hieratic for writing documents and letters and it does not mean that more ordinary people became literate. It is full of ligatures, abbreviations and peculiar language constructions which make it very difficult to read and almost impossible to transcribe into hieroglyphs - it appears to have been influenced by classical Greek and Roman scripts.
Coptic borrowed six letters from Demotic for its writing system.
Egyptian Hieroglyphics was the formal way of writing in Ancient Egypt. It was a system of pictures where each one stood for a specific sound, not a word like Europeans originally though. However, a simplified Demotic writing system was also added in later Egyptian history for everyday writing. Formal documents were usually in hieroglyphics. The Rosetta Stone, which evetually allowed for the translation of hieroglyphics, contained both hieroglyphics and demotic.
The Rosetta Stone, discovered in 1799, was the crucial archaeological find that enabled the translation of hieroglyphics and demotic writing. This stone features the same text inscribed in three scripts: Greek, Demotic, and hieroglyphics. The presence of the Greek text allowed scholars, notably Jean-François Champollion, to decipher the ancient Egyptian scripts, unlocking the language and providing insights into Egypt's history and culture.
Ancient Egypt developed several writing systems, the most notable of which are hieroglyphics, hieratic, and demotic. Hieroglyphics, a complex system of pictorial symbols, was primarily used for religious texts and monumental inscriptions. Hieratic, a simplified, cursive form of hieroglyphics, was used for administrative and everyday writing. Demotic emerged later as a more streamlined script for daily use, representing the evolution of the Egyptian writing tradition over centuries.

Well the demotic writing was a much simpler form of writing used by the ancient Egyptians making it easier to translate it. Hieroglyphics were used only for documents making it harder to understand them. However Jean Champollion was able to translate the Rosetta Stone which had hieroglyphics, demotic and Greek. He was able to tell what it meant by comparing Greek to the other forms of writing.

Hieroglyphs or hieroglyphics(in America). They also had writing called demotic and hieratic, which were like a simplified, shorthand, everyday version of hieroglyphs.
If you mean hieratic, then hieratic glyphs were mostly used in documents, poems, and stories, where as regular hieroglyphics, called demotic, was used more for everyday writing. Hope that helped!

Demotic means "popular". It was the popular style of writing at the time.
ancient Greek, hieroglyphics, and demotic (Egyptian)
It provided the first chance to understand Egyptian Hieroglyphics writing by providing the same text in Hieroglyphics, Demotic, and Greek. Both the Greek and Demotic could be read to find out what was being said on the stone, the Hieroglyphics could then be compared and analyzed for patterns (similar to the way codes and cyphers are broken).
The Rosetta Stone features three different scripts: hieroglyphics at the top, Demotic script in the middle, and Ancient Greek at the bottom. This arrangement reflects the hierarchy of the languages used in ancient Egypt, with hieroglyphics being the most formal and associated with religious texts, Demotic for everyday writing, and Greek representing the administrative language during the Hellenistic period.
