How is the myth that there was no such thing as the Holocaust supported?

Frankly and in all seriousness I believe that myth is supported by people who have deviated sharply off the path of sanity and/or have a political/ideological agenda to push that requires the Holocaust to have been some sort of scam propogated by Jews and Allied governments which are purportedly controlled by Jews.

Holocaust denial is on the one hand a rather sadly comical delusion and on the other an expression of the refusal of irrational hatred to lie down and die. There are a few writers who periodically produce historical works that claim that the holocaust did not happen, or was greatly exaggerated, or in one way or another justified. I am not convinced that these writers are hate-mongers. I suspect they are more likely driven by depressingly personal psychological reasons to attempt to subvert widely held understanding of the acts perpertrated by the Third Reich. It is very hard not to have some sympathy for these individuals, as it is for anyone who is obsessed by a single idea to the exclusion of all evidence that contradicts their belief. It would be equally hard to avoid the temptation to giggle behind the hand at some of these beliefs if they weren't so potentially harmful. Dogmatic ideologies and narrow-mindedness (in concert with the usual suspect - greed) have helped drag the nations of the world into war over and over again. Basically, Holocaust denial supports itself through individuals who are not particularly well mentally, some of whom are nevertheless capable of producing scholarly works.
