This is a question that cannot be answered by mere numbers. The United States has always believed in the greatest good for the greatest number of people. This is known as personal liberty. To that end, the United States has fought many wars, even in it's own borders. The United States is unique among the world nations because it has never gone to war as a nation to conquer other nations. The wars it has fought has been to defend itself or other countries. There has never been long term subjugation of another country by the United States as a matter of policy. It is a peculiarity of the United States that it spends time, money, and resources to rebuild the countries it has a war with. The United States has never gone to war in modern times in order to gain territory. If you are in Iraq, the current death toll from this war is about 3,100 at the moment. There are thousands of maimed soldiers that we will be caring for in years to come. As it is said, "The price of liberty is never cheap." Yet we pay the price for others to achieve liberty because we so strongly believe in it.
