The U.S. Military used chemical agents such as napalm and agent orange to kill vegetation and harm the enemy during the Vietnam War. Agent Orange was a chemical defoliant used to strip leaves from trees in the jungle and to destroy rice crops to deny the enemy food sources. The defoliants were sprayed to allow the U.S. to see into the jungle and see the Viet Cong that were hidden from air-view due to the trees covering the grounds. The defoliants caused health defects in the Vietnamese civilains. Some of the health detects included cancer, sterility in soldiers, unhelathy and deformed babies and still born babies.
Agent Orange affected many people. Such as varying diseases and child abnormalities. It is not known for certain that Agent Orange is also an influence to Cancer.
Many have around the world and are still dying from it. I haven't found any site yet that is keeping a count. Their are many like Cyber Sarge website and the Blanket of Tears. Agent orange just keeps on killing even after 50 years. n Michael E Foster Vietnam Veteran
During the Vietnam War, U.S. forces sprayed a variety of herbicidal and defoliant chemicals in a program known as Herbicidal Warfare. The chemicals were identified by code names Agent Orange, Agent Purple, Agent Pink, Agent Green, Agent Blue and Agent White. Many of these were contaminated with toxic and carcenogenic dioxin compounds. The most widely used chemical was Agent Orange, which was a mixture of 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T, contaminated with the dioxin TCDD. 2,4-D is 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid. 2,4,5-T is 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid. TCDD is 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzodioxin, known to be associated with cancers such as sarcoma, lymphoma and leukemia.
I believe it can, my father fell into a puddle of "agent orange" when he was in the war, and all of his kids, and myself have many health problems, the list is very long and will take half of the day just to list everything wrong with us. I wish their was some way to have justice for what has happened to our family because of it, and for the other family's going through it!

Why did American soldiers use Agent Orange? to detect Vietcong booby traps to disrupt the enemy's food supply to kill as many Vietcong guerrillas as possible to deter villages from harboring guerrillas
How many sailors were exposed to agent orange

DURING WARTIME, AGENT ORANGE was widly used as a defoliant in jungle or heavily forested areas. The whole area was sprayed, killing all of the trees leaves and foliage, making it eaiser for us to see the enemy. HOWEVER: You didn't have to be right there to be exposed to it. I know people who were in the Air Force during the Vietnam war. They were exposed to agent orange in the process of making it,packaging it, storing it, loading it,shipping it, dispersing it and many other possible ways. So to answer your question: yes it is possible to have been exposed to agent orange at various bases and installations.(NOT in particular Ft. Lewis, but in general).
Vietnam is a country of Forrest and trees, they used it to kill the Forrest around them so it would be easier to walk through. Sadly the we did not know of he health problems it caused. Yes, there are such things as orange trees. Information about the evergreen trees, originally from Southeast Asia, that bear the many types of fruit we call oranges, is well-covered in the link below. There are also trees which have leaves with orange coloring all year, and deciduous trees which have leaves that turn orange, among other colors, as the weather cools and the leaves become ready to drop ahead of winter.
