More, literally, than you can shake a stick at ! Warfare has always, at all times throughout the world, been a facet of human interaction. No society has been immune from fighting at one time or another. Answering your question would take a very long time to calculate in full, if indeed it is possible. Excuse me if I give it a body swerve!

It's not really possible to answer this question accurately. A lot depends on the definition of "war" and the historical record.

The first recorded war occurred around 2700 BC but there's little doubt that tribes and groups fought each other for many years before then. However, no written records exist of these conflicts because writing wasn't invented until around 3000 BC.

You also have wars between nations, tribes, civil wars and then there are so called "wars" that were little more than a skirmish involving a few dozen people.

But estimates suggest there have been over 3,000 individually recorded wars in the last 3,000 years. Although this is surely a low estimate.

Between 1900-1995 there were around 165 wars or other conflicts that claimed over 6,000 lives. In those 95 years over 185 million people (military and civilian) were killed.
