Most young people in China know a little about it. But elder people know a lot. Most of them think that incident as a upheaval which should be cracked down because the bad effect on the stable development of China. But they also hold some sympathy for the demonstrators, people think some of their claims were reasonable, but too extreme. In fact, they know the incident was an echo of the collapse of Soviet Union but not the real requests of Chinese people. Most elder Chinese don't think it as a massacre, because some demonstrators(mob) had endangered the national security of China. They must be controlled.

It was a peaceful protest against the apartheid in South Africa, but the government came and open fired on it killing 69 people. It was very similar to the Tienanmen Square Massacre in China. It happened March 21, 1960

After the Tiananmen Square Massacre, life in China was very strict and the college students had to take a test once a year to ensure they agreed with the government and would follow it. The freedoms people had once had were taken away. The rest of the world was not happy with China AT ALL!!!
