1st: Peninsulares- born in Spain, only ones eligible for high office
2nd: Creoles- people of spanish heritage born in Latin America. Not eligible for high office in government, although were in military
3rd: Mestizos- people of mixed European and Native American ancestry
4th: Mulattos- People of mixed European and African ancestry
5th: Africans- enslaved people
6th: Native Americans- Native peoples. Listed under Slaves because at the time they were still a strong society and therefore a larger problem than the slaves.

The biggest impact is language. Brazil speaks Portuguese. Most of the rest of Latin America speak Spanish. The other impact is religion. Most of Latin America are Roman Catholic.
